Jaffna, on the extreme northern coast of Sri Lanka, is little visited and remains unspoilt and authentic. It has glorious beaches, amazing islands, sunsets and is full of surprises.
Please note you no longer need a travel permit from the military to travel to Jaffna – the restriction was lifted in 2011, though you will be stopped at a checkpoints along the way at Omantai and Elephant Pass. There you will be expected to produce your passport and complete forms.

I never realised Jaffna was like this. Last time I was in there people put me off going saying it was dangerous. But it is beautiful. Look out for an email from me as I want to come in November.
