Sinhalese is a wonderful, economical and colourful language. It is the mother tongue of the Sinhalese ethnic group which is the largest in Sri Lanka and belongs to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European languages.

It is one of the recognised official languages of Sri Lanka, along with Tamil. It is therefore useful to know some!

Sue has been learning it for three years now from Sri Lankans who live in Liverpool and can speak at first hand about the challenges of mastering the speed and the script and of the wonderful insight Sinhala gives into the culture of Sri Lanka.
